Ecommerce CGI is photoreal 3D product visualisation created specifically for online retail. CGI packshots, product render animations, lifestyle scenes and interactive product experiences — all built in 3D rather than photographed. The result is product imagery that is more flexible, more consistent and in many cases better looking than photography, at a lower cost once the assets exist.
For the Amazon Oral B iO Virtual Showroom, we built a real-time CGI product experience that let shoppers explore the full Oral B iO range interactively. The result was a 22% add to basket rate — significantly above industry benchmarks — with a third of users spending over 60 seconds engaging with the product before buying.
Why CGI beats photography for ecommerce
Photography requires a finished product, a studio booking, a photographer, a retoucher, and a reshoot every time a variant, colour or detail changes. CGI product renders require none of that. Once the 3D model exists, you can generate unlimited colourways, backgrounds, angles and lighting setups at a fraction of the cost of reshooting. You can show a product that does not yet exist. You can create imagery that photography physically cannot achieve.
